ODPOD has new Deputy Director

The Office of the Director of Public Officers Declarations (ODPOD) has a new Deputy Director, Mr. Beyani T Munthali replacing Mr. Micheal Chiusiwa who now heads the Directorate.

Mr. Munthali joined ODPOD in June 2021 after he successfully passed interviews by the Public Appointments Committee of parliament, which is the appointing authority.

The Deputy Directors appointment is in keeping with Section 7 (7) of the Public Officers (Declaration of Assets, Liabilities and Business Interests) Act of 2013 which states that “The Public Appointments Committee shall call for nominations from the public for appointment to the office of the Director by way of a public advertisement placed by Clerk to the National Assembly, and the successful candidate shall be appointed in accordance with the requirements of this section”.

Apart from enforcing, regulating, and monitoring declarations, Mr. Munthali’s role is to also ensure the enforcement of laws related to public governance, towards enhancing trust in the public service.

Mr. Beyani T Munthali holds a BCom Law, an LLM in Commercial Law, and is an associate of the Chartered Institute of Arbitrators in England. He served in the Industrial Relations Court as a legal research intern before joining the private sector as a legal advisor for the past twelve years. During this time, his focus was on advocating for a conducive environment for doing business on topical issues such as employment, business laws, and policies.

Before joining ODPOD, Mr. Munthali was Chief Executive Officer for the Tea Association of Malawi Limited.
